What You Need to Know Before Using Your New Phone in the Car

11/4/2019

Getting a new phone can be a lot of fun. You no longer have to deal with a slow interface, low memory and other things that plague older phones. One of the first things people usually do when they get a new phone is to explore all its new bells and whistles. After a few minutes, you pretty much know how the new phone functions. However, be careful before using your new phone in the car. The following list describes some of the things to keep in mind when driving and using your new phone.

Know Your Settings
One of the most dangerous times when driving and using your phone is when you're attempting to connect it to your Bluetooth system. Not all phone navigational systems are created the same, so you must look down to see what you're doing. This can be a very dangerous thing to do on the road as it only takes a second to miss a stop sign or pass a red light. Always make sure that these connectivity issues are taken care of prior to leaving your driveway. Continue to do this until you know your settings by heart.

Pick Up Some Accessories
Cell Phones have useful functions that come in handy in the car. Some people use their phone's GPS to navigate through an unfamiliar part of town, but having the phone on constantly can drain its battery. You can alleviate this common complaint by getting a cellphone charger for your car. Others use their phones to speak with friends and family during a long drive.

Whatever your reason for using your phone while driving, you must always consider ways to diminish your lack of attention on the road. Get a phone mount for your car so that it's in your line of sight while you're driving. Mounts allow you to place your phone off to the side, letting you continue speaking or getting directions without taking your eyes off the road. Before you do this, keep in mind the laws within your own state and local county. Phones can be a major cause of distracted driving, and it's even illegal to use them in some places.

Go Hands-Free
One of the best things about new vehicle technology is that not only can you listen to your music through the car's speakers, but you can also talk, text and ask for specific items without having to touch your phone. Although it might be difficult to break the habit of having to touch your phone, the safest thing to do for yourself and any other passengers is to go hands-free and utilize these voice-command features in your car. Most new phones and newer model cars have this feature.

Although you might be one of the best drivers on the road, all those skills don't matter much if you're distracted by your phone. Follow the tips above to stay safe on the road with your new phone.

Are you ready to get a new phone? Come and get one at one of our retail locations!
