Wireless Provider Doubles its Subscriber Base since its Acquisition by AT&T in 2014 Atlanta-based Cricket Wireless announced today it broke the 9 million subscriber mark. The company was acquired by AT&T in 2014 and re-launched as the new Cricket with 4.5 million subscribers. Since then, it has disrupted the industry as AT&T’s fighter brand by simplifying the customer shopping experience, infusing transparency in its plans and pricing, and giving customers the latest devices on a great network. “Our ability to double the Cricket subscriber base in just four years after the acquisition is owed to a razor sharp focus on our customers - who we thank for coming along with us on this journey” said John Dwyer, president, AT&T Prepaid Portfolio. “At the beginning of this story, the prepaid industry was plagued with complexity. Customers deserved more, so our employees and authorized retailers dedicated themselves to finding innovative solutions that gained their trust and gave them the simple, smarter wireless experience.” In 2017, the Cricket and AT&T PREPAID (formerly GoPhone) brands were combined into one business group, known as the AT&T Prepaid Portfolio. Delivering a strong performance in 2017, AT&T's consumer prepaid portfolio was the fastest-growing prepaid provider and today serves 14.9 million subscribers, an increase of 1.1 million from a year ago. Also in 2017, Cricket was ranked #1 by Forrester® in their annual US Customer Experience Index study. Dwyer added, “As we turn the corner on this historic milestone, our commitment to elevating the prepaid wireless customer experience is stronger than ever.” About Cricket Wireless: Cricket brings more value with a simple, smarter, friendly wireless experience on our reliable nationwide 4G LTE network that covers more than 99% of Americans*. You may have noticed our Cricket Wireless unlimited plans have new names! As of April 22, we’ve updated the names of our unlimited data plans to make it easier to understand the differences between our two unlimited data plan options. Same plans, just with new names:
Cricket is launching this Sunday, April 22, a simple, smarter way for customers and their friends to earn a $25 service credit for each referral (up to $250 each calendar year) for Cricket service. Cricket’s new Refer A Friend program is easy to find and easy to use. Cricket customers simply send a unique referral code from their myCricket account (online or via the myCricket app), and the customers and their friend each receive an automatic credit after 60 days of the new service if the accounts are not cancelled. Referrers can easily track the status of their referrals in myCricket, and the app sends you a text when a credit is applied. Service credits can be used towards service and features on the credit-holder’s Cricket Wireless account. Customers who are ready to recommend Cricket to their friends and family can start beginning April 22, 2018 by logging into their myCricket account and clicking on the Refer a Friend tab. Those who haven’t yet created a myCricket account can download the app here.
