Visit www.change.org to support the ‘Wireless Tax Fairness Act’ – Halt regressive taxes that impact every user, and hit those on fixed budgets the hardest. Why This Is Important: The U.S. Congress is working to forge consumer-friendly tax policies that will impact hundreds of millions of wireless consumers just like you. Cell phone service was once considered a luxury but having a cell phone is now a daily lifeline for most consumers. It's become an all too important resource for working class Americans who feel the pinch of regressive wireless taxes and fees each month. The House of Representatives unanimously passed H.R. 1002 (Lofgren-Franks ‘Wireless Tax Fairness Act’) on November 1, 2011. This bipartisan, strongly-supported pro-consumer legislation will provide immediate much-needed wireless tax relief to American wireless users, their families, and their businesses – by putting a stop to rising state and local taxes and fees, for a moratorium period of five years. Now, it’s time for the Senate to follow suit and take action to protect consumers when they need it most. The identical companion bill, S. 543 (Wyden-Snowe ‘Wireless Tax Fairness Act’) is currently being considered in the Senate Finance Committee, and must be passed as well in order for the ‘Wireless Tax Fairness Act’ to go to the President for his signature. You can help today! Please urge your Senators to join their colleagues from the House, and support and vote for the ‘Wireless Tax Fairness Act' today. Senators and staff can contact original sponsor Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME) to co-sponsor the important legislation. Let’s keep wireless affordable and accessible for ALL Americans. Say NO to all new, discriminatory state and local wireless taxes & fees – for 5 years! |
